International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness

15/10/2014

October is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month with today, the 15th, being the main day. Theresa a friend of mine (from It’s All About The Polish) has asked that we paint our nails pink and blue to show support and raise awareness for pregnancy and infant loss. From Theresa: “Around the world on the 15th October at 7pm people are asked to light a candle. Then throughout the time zones a wave of light is made in memory of the precious lives taken too soon. Let’s also make October 15th a wave of polished hands showing support throughout the world.” If you want to join in on social media you can use #pregnancyandinfantloss to add your hand to the wave.

I started with a base of three coats of Powder Perfect Tristan and two coats of China Glaze White on White. I wore that for a day as I loved the simplicity of the cremes together. Then I added Emily de Molly Love Triangle on the ring finger. Love Triangle is a glitter topper with matte blue, pink and white glitters; the white triangles make it unique in my collection. On the middle finger I used Powder Perfect Isolde which is a pink creme with micro sparkles. To make the butterfly, I painted two coats of Isolde onto baking paper and let it dry for a couple of hours. Then I used a paper stamper to get the butterfly shape. I stuck the butterfly on with a small amount of top coat and then sealed it in with a thick layer of Glisten and Glow HK Girl Top Coat.

For me, butterflies represent both hope and those who have passed on, so it made sense to use one for this mani. These nails aren’t as special as I wanted them to be but it’s the best I can do for this level of health. I haven’t gone through the torment of losing an infant but I know the pain of wanting a child and having to accept that health will not allow that to happen for me. Losing a child would be the hardest thing for a person to go through so I wanted to add my hand to the wave of polish to show support to the people who have suffered through that agony.

In conjunction with the wave of polish campaign, Theresa is also holding auctions of one off Aussie Indie polishes with all the proceeds being donated to SANDS Australia. You can see the items and place bids at http://www.myminiauction.com/waveofpolish just remember that it closes at 7pm tonight. I can’t afford to bid on the items so you will have to show me what you get. Please go check it out and support this worthy cause.

Love, Alinta
