My Favourite Cruelty Free Cosmetics

To end #BlogForBunnies and #BeCrueltyFree Week I am going to share with you my favourite cruelty free cosmetics. I have tried my hardest to get all information on the brands I am listing but I will edit this post if find out that one of these brands/products do not fit my idea of cruelty free. You can read about my ideas on cruelty free products in my Vegan and Cruelty Free Standards in the Beauty Industry post.

My Favourite Cruelty Free Cosmetics

I figure the best way to do this is by going through products categories. I will add some notes at the end of this post to clarify the cruelty free status of some of the brands.

For a long time I didn’t use primer as it seemed like overkill to me. When I finally decided to try one, I spent a lot of time researching which one was best and finally decided on The Balm Time Balm Face Primer. Time Balm is a silicone based primer and it is still my favourite all over face primer to date. I sometimes also use two pore filling primers around my nose area to help disguise any large pores. They are Innoxa Skin Perfecting Pore Vanishing Cream (vegan) and Designer Brands Pore Minimising Primer (vegan).

Foundation and Powder
It is difficult for me to find foundations that suit my very light skin tone and combination skin so I am always on the look out for new foundations. If I am in a rush and want my foundation to be the setting powder as well, then I use Couluer Caramel Fond de teint Hydracoton Foundation as it dries to a powder finish. If I need something long wearing then I go for Innoxa Long Lasting Foundation (vegan). When it comes to powders, I use Australis all the way. Depending on what I need I either use Prime and Finish Finishing Powder (vegan) or the Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder (vegan).

I mainly use one concealer at the moment which is Couleur Caramel Corrective Cream. It is in a pot container so would be considered a cream but it is very easy to apply and blend. I think I still need a creamier concealer and highlighting concealer for my cruelty free makeup bag.

Blush and Highlighter
I used to love the Nyx blushes but Nyx was bought by the animal testing L’Oreal last year so they are no longer in my makeup bag. Instead I use the Innoxa Blush Duo (vegan) in Rose and Berry. When I wear highlighter on special occasions I always reach for a cult product, The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer (vegan).

I have always found pencils to be the easiest thing to use to fill in my eyebrows but I struggled to find a good pencil that also had a spoolie on the end rather than a useless straight eyebrow brush. I stumbled upon the Models Prefer one not long ago and it seems to be doing the trick for me. To keep my eyebrows in place after using the pencil, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel. Sometimes I also use a completely different product, the Designer Brands Extend A Brow (vegan). Extend A Brow has an applicator with a small soft sponge that deposits mineral powder and tiny fibres onto your brows to make them look fuller.

My everyday eye basic is the Jordana 12 Hr Made To Last Eyeshadow Pencil in Continuous Almond. If I want to do more with my eyeshadow then I use The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette. For eyeliner, I really like the Models Prefer Infinite Colour Eye Pencil in Black Cat and Nude Appeal. If I want to blend eyeliner then I go for the Designer Brands Khol Eye Pencil. When I want to make a statement then I use the Australis Liquid Eyeliner which is really easy to apply. I tend to like natural eyelashes but the trend at the moment is big lashes, often with the use of fibres, so I’m still looking for a mascara that I like.

To moisturise my lips I use Hurraw, a great natural and vegan product. A lip product that I use all the time is the Innoxa Invisible Lip shaper. Sometimes I use it as just a lip liner but more often, I use it as a whole lip primer. Another lovely line of Innoxa lip products, are the Antioxidant Lip Glazes (vegan). On special occasions I wear lipstick but the main one I always go back to is the Australis Go Long Longwear Lipstick in Preppy. I also use Ulta3 Moisturising Lipstick in Vixen and Australis Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick in Honky Tonk. The main lip products that I use are chubby lip crayons, I have a lot of them. My crayon collection includes Face Of Australia Gloss Lip Crayons, Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stains, Models Prefer Moisturising Lust Glossy Lip Tints and Australis Neon Crush Lip Crayons.

When it comes to nails, I am a big fan of Australian indie polish as the aussie indies are often cruelty free, vegan and great quality. For basic cremes I use China Glaze, Zoya (vegan) and Furless (vegan). The current base coats I am using are both from Pretty Serious Cosmetics (vegan). I am using the nail hardening base, Rock On, and the ridge filling base coat, All Your Base. I am currently using Powder Perfect (vegan) Chandelier Shine as my top coat as well as the Powder Perfect Cuticle Balm. My favourite Hand Cream is the Sukin Hand and Nail Cream (Vegan) and favourite nail oils can be found in my Cuticle Oil Review And Comparison Post.

Other Products
For makeup application, I use Eco Tools and Real Techniques brushes but I’m also saving up for some Furless brushes. To clean the brushes I use the Models Prefer Brush Cleaner (vegan). To set my makeup I use the Australis Make-up finishing spritz. To take my make-up off I always use the Wotnot Facial Wipes. I haven’t yet found facial skincare products that I love but I have been using the same body moisturiser for a year now which is Coconut Revolution Body Cream.

I hope this posts helps some of you. I know changing to cruelty free cosmetics can be daunting but it is so worthwhile. I still have certain products that I haven’t found a replacement for, but I am always on the hunt. I also have a long list of cruelty free and vegan brands that I want to try so hopefully I can afford and review some of those soon for you all. What is your favourite cruelty free cosmetic?

I have contacted The Balm and they are cruelty free, I also have a list of their vegan products – Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter, Shadow and Primer, Sexy Mama Anti Shine Translucent Powder, Bahama Mama Bronzer, Read My Lips Lip Glosses, What’s Your Type? Mascaras, Schwing Eyeliner, INSTAIN blushes, balmShelter Tinted Moisturizer, Put A Lid On It Eyeshadow Primer, Stainiac Lip and Cheek Stain.
I have contacted Priceline, makers of Models Prefer, who have confirmed that MP products are cruelty free but I am still waiting on a list of products that are vegan.
I have contacted The Heat Group, makers of Ulta3 and they have confirmed that both Heat and Ulta3 are against animal testing and that all ingredients and final products are not tested on animals. Ulta3 and Mud lipsticks do contain Beeswax, Glycerin and Phenoxyethanol so are not vegan. Ulta3 and Mud nail polishes are “ultimately vegan but do contain Isopropyl Alcohol, Diacetone Alcohol”.

Love, Alinta
