Thermal Christmas Tree Nails

27/12/2016

I hope you had a great Christmas surrounded by loved ones. I am really ill due to Christmas, but I wanted to show you my cute thermal Christmas tree nails as they are really easy to recreate if you choose to do so next year. I used two Australian indie brands in this mani that are both cruelty free and some christmas tree vinyls.

For the base of this mani I used a thermal polish from Femme Fatale Cosmetics called Clever Girl. Clever Girl is a bright red leaning pink when cool and clear when warm (over 30°C.) It is packed full of golden shimmers and holographic glitters that compliment both states nicely. I used four coats, but it can look as if there is tip wear in the clear state as the opacity comes from the glitters and they don’t sit well on the tip of the nail. Even with four coats, there is slight VNL (visible nail line) in the clear state – this didn’t bother me much in this polish though. The polish has a very slight texture from the glitters but it’s easily smoothed out with a coat of top coat. Clever Girl is a very sensitive thermal so it changes with only slight temperature differences, which I really like as some thermals only change if you put your hands in really warm or cool water. Because of the warm weather in Melbourne at the moment, the polish tended to stay in an in-between stage where it was a light peach colour, I didn’t like this colour as much as the clear or red/pink colours but it was still nice. As with all thermal polishes, the thermal pigment degrades over time which means the shift in colour will stop after 6-12 months. This polish will probably settle as the red colour but I have seen thermals like this settle in the middle colour (peach) too.

For the nail art I used a holographic green polish from Powder Perfect called Osiris and a squiggly christmas tree nail vinyl/stencil from What’s Up Nails. What’s Up Nails have redesigned their vinyls so that there is a lot less solid vinyl around the design making it much easier to see where the vinyl is being placed. I always struggle to place vinyls upright and in the middle of the nail, so this new design is much easier for me to use.

These nails didn’t take me long despite my bad shakes and blurry vision, so anyone of any skill level should be able to recreate this or do something similar. Everyone who saw my nails loved them and all said they looked very festive. I don’t tend to like reds but this is just pink enough for me to really enjoy wearing it, my camera picked up a lot or red in the light box, but in real life there is a little bit more pink to Clever Girl in cold state.  Did you do any sort of mani for the holidays? Will you recreate these christmas tree nails next year? Hopefully my health will allow me to post some New Years Eve nails as I love to make them nice and sparkly.

Love, Alinta
