Falling Leaves Nail Art With Painted Polish

03/04/2017

Now that it is April, I have to admit that Autumn really is here in Melbourne. The days are getting colder and the leaves are falling off the trees, so I thought I would do some falling leaves nail art to match. I show a lot of Australian indie polish brands, but there are also a couple of international indie brands that I like, one of them being Painted Polish by Lexi. Painted Polish is known for their glitter crellys which is my favourite sort of nail polish. I originally got into aussie indies because of all the pretty crelly polishes they were making at the time. Trends have changed now though and glitter crellys are harder to get from aus indies, so I like to find international indie polish makers that do pretty glitter crelly polishes.

I started this mani off with a base of Painted Polish Here’s To 3 Years: The Crelly. I first saw this nail polish on instagram and fell in love. Unfortunately, it was limited edition and sold out by the time I saw it. Being such a “me” polish, I searched lots of second hand nail polish facebook groups to find someone who might want to sell theirs, and it paid off. I was able to buy the Painted Polish three year anniversary duo which consists of Here’s To 3 Years:The Crelly and Here’s To Three Years which is a muted copper holographic polish with some holographic glitters mixed in. They’re a gorgeous duo, but I did find that Here’s To 3 years needed at least 3 coats for opacity which is more than a normal holo. Here’s To Three Years: The Crelly needed three thin coats to cover any nail line, but that’s typical of a crelly. The sheerer formula allows the glitters from the layers below to be seen which creates the pretty effect that crellys have. I often find that crellys look better in person rather than pictures because photos never show the true depth of a crelly or the pretty sparkle of the glitters.

After a couple of days of wearing Here’s To Three Years: The Crelly alone, I decided that some falling leaves nail art would look pretty on top as the glitters in the crelly remind me of falling leaves. I did the leaves using leaf nail vinyl stencils from Vinyl Boutique and Powder Perfect Gilded Beauty. Gilded Beauty is one of my more opaque copper hued polishes so it worked well for this. I just stuck the stencils on and painted Gilded Beauty over the top and quickly removed the vinyls before the polish dried. I was hoping to fit more leaves per nail but my nail beds are quite thin so I wasn’t able to fit any more.

I have some other polishes from Painted Polish By Lexi too: #PSL The Crelly, Rustic Rendezvous, Mermaid Melody, Festival Of Frost and Something Lavender. They all have a nice formula and the glitter and base combinations are very pretty. There are currently some cute green polishes in her store that would be perfect for a Tick Borne/Lyme Disease awareness mani in May. I am starting to collect donations for my annual awareness giveaway now, but I’m not sure if there will be any international indies in it this year. The only bad part about ordering from International indies is obviously the shipping price because it can be expensive to get them here and the alternate seasons – I like wearing nail polish that fits the season but that means I have to buy it 6 months earlier if I want any from America.

I will try to show you some more of my favourite international indie brands soon, but don’t forget to check out my blog post Guide To Australian Indie Nail Polish to see all the awesome aussie indie brands that are around. The Aussie Indie Con is coming up in June, so I will using some of my favourites in the lead up to that. If you’re wanting to know more about cruelty free and vegan nail polish then check out my How To Tell If Nail Polish Is Vegan blog post, I give you a list of both cruelty free and vegan nail polish brands there. What do you think of my falling leaves nail art? It’s easy enough for anyone to have a go at.
